Shaurya Verma Founder

Shaurya founded MDJunior in 2009 as a young social entrepreneur. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University, studying Public Health and Entrepreneurship & Management and continued to evolve our 501(c)3 throughout the last 14 years. Shaurya has been at the helm for over 16 medical missions from Latin America to Asia and grassroots fundraising of $2M+. He is a management consultant from McKinsey & Co and worked in technology / venture capital at Insight Partners & ProduxLabs. His vision is to empower youth and healthcare leaders to bridge the health gap across the world.

Tarun Kilaru Conference Chair

Tarun Kilaru is a freshman at the University of Georgia, where he continues his passion for service and leadership that began during his time at Lambert High School. In high school, he played an active role in the MDJunior chapter’s community efforts, bringing a significant transformation to the local chapter through frequent volunteering, especially at a nearby senior living facility. His early involvement with MDJunior set the foundation for his dedication to making a positive impact. Tarun enjoys playing basketball, spending time in nature, and watching sports. He recently joined the team as the Marketing Manager and is excited to inspire change and encourage others to take action in their communities.

Faisal Javed Conference Chair

Faisal Javed is a senior at Denmark High School and an active member of MDJunior. He’s been involved with the organization throughout high school and currently serves as a National Youth Ambassador. Faisal is interested in the intersection of business and healthcare and enjoys finding new ways to make a positive impact in his community. He’s especially passionate about youth leadership, global health, and using innovation to help others.

Chief Mentors

  • Dr. Deepa Ranganathan

    Dr. Deepa is an Assistant Professor in Neonatology at Emory Medicine. In addition her clinical work, she also serves on the Georgia Perinatal Quality collaborative at the GA Dept of Public Health. Dr. Deepa pursues her passion for Global Health as the co-director of EMPHASIS, Neonatology in Tanzania. Dr Deepa is board certified in Pediatrics & Neonatology, has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics since 1999, and received an MPH from Emory as well. Dr. Deepa has been a Chief Mentor and Board member with MDJunior since it’s inception in 2009.

  • Dr. Meena Verma

    Dr. Meena is an MD specializing in Pediatrics and Clinical Research. She graduated Cum Lauda from King Edward Memorial Medical College, completed Pediatrics residency at Jaslok Hospital, and is an accomplished clinical researcher at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Dr. Meena has committed herself to humanitarianism and youth empowerment in healthcare. Her passion is MDJunior’s Global Medical-Mentor Missions. Dr. Meena has been a Chief Mentor with MDJunior since its inception in 2009.

  • Mahwish Javed

    Mahwish is a public health professional with dual master’s degrees in Public Health Informatics from the University of Illinois - Chicago and Health Communications from the University of Peshawar. She currently works at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta as a Program Manager in Neuroscience, where she leads and manages four large, multidisciplinary outpatient clinics. In her free time, Mahwish enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and two boys.

Our Advisors

  • Sweta Sneha

    Dr. Sneha is the Founder-Executive Director and Professor at Kennesaw State University, leading the Healthcare Management and Informatics (HMI) program. She spearheads healthcare innovation, global workforce development, and strategic partnerships. Under her leadership, HMI has generated over $10 million in revenue and expanded KSU’s impact on the health-tech talent pipeline. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare and technology, Dr. Sneha is a recognized leader in digital healthcare and workforce diversity. She has mentored thousands of students and designed programs for underrepresented groups. She has published extensively, is a frequent speaker at industry events, and serves on multiple boards. She holds a PhD in Computer Information Systems and a BS in Computer Science

  • Chris Lagerbloom

    Chris Lagerbloom became City Administrator of Alpharetta on August 8, 2022, overseeing daily operations alongside a team of public administrators. He was appointed by the Mayor and six City Councilmembers. Previously, Lagerbloom served as City Manager of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, managing a $1 billion budget and 2,800 employees. He led major projects including infrastructure improvements, park enhancements, and bringing Major League Soccer to South Florida. He also guided the city through hurricane responses and the COVID pandemic. Lagerbloom was also the City Manager of Milton, Georgia, where he built a dynamic government from the ground up. Under his leadership, Milton received numerous national accolades for quality of life, safety, and environmental initiatives. He holds a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Columbus State University.

  • Deepa Mukundan

    Dr. Deepa Mukundan is the Chair of Pediatrics and Professor of Pediatric Infectious Disease at the University of Toledo. Board certified in pediatrics and infectious diseases, she also serves as Chief of Infectious Diseases at ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital and Nationwide Children’s Hospital Toledo. Dr. Mukundan has held several leadership roles, including Interim Vice Chair of Pediatrics and Associate Dean of Student Affairs. She was honored with the Dr. Alice Skeen’s Outstanding Woman Award (2016) and inducted into the Alpha-Omega-Alpha Honor Society (2018). She is currently Vice President of the UTCOMLS Alumni Affiliate Board of Trustees.

  • Arjun Janakiraman

    Arjun is a driven, community-oriented leader who started his journey with MDJunior in high school, building a successful chapter in Suwanee, Georgia with hundreds of community service hours. His favorite MDJunior experience was organizing and participating in the senior match program, which involved connecting motivated high school students with elderly individuals from a retirement home to provide companionship. As the Manager of Technology, Arjun is committed to upholding MDJunior's dedication to service and progress and is excited about the upcoming expansion to Georgia Tech, where he will be attending in the fall.

  • Jai Trivedi

    Jai is a sophomore at Georgia Tech majoring in Biology on the pre-health track. He started his MDJunior journey in high school, co-founding a chapter in Suwanee, Georgia. Over the course of his leadership, Jai grew the chapter to over 100 members and worked tirelessly with local organizations and hospital systems to mobilize youth to impact health in the community. His altruistic nature and passion for responding to operational challenges with confidence, determination, and focus have led him to recently join the team as the Manager of Chapter Operations. Jai is most excited to expand and execute the mission of MDJunior.

  • Abhimanyu Bhanja

    Abhi is a senior at Lambert High School and the current President of MDJunior’s Lambert chapter. He is passionate about public health, youth empowerment, and creating sustainable change in his local community. As a Youth Leader, Abhi contributes to MDJunior’s national vision by supporting website development, event planning, and chapter coordination. He enjoys collaborating with leaders across the country to strengthen MDJunior’s impact and reach. Abhi is especially excited to continue mentoring future leaders and expanding the organization’s mission in innovative ways.

  • Riya Gupta

    Riya Gupta is a senior at Denmark High School and currently leads the school’s MDJunior chapter. She began her journey as a freshman, first as an active member, then as the volunteer service coordinator, and now as chapter president. Outside of her leadership roles, Riya enjoys music, cooking, and crocheting in her free time. She recently joined the GYHS team and is excited to help bring this opportunity to more high school students across the country.

  • Misha Kurilo

    Misha Kurilo is a rising junior at St. Pius X Catholic High School and a dedicated volunteer with the VolunTeen Program at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Fernbank Museum. Passionate about science and social studies, he has competed at the state level in the Science Olympiad. Misha is also a skilled fencer with over 10 years of experience, competing in regional and national tournaments.

  • Leela Basole

    Leela Basole is a junior at Atlanta International School where she has an active role in engaging students into healthcare with her club Teen Meets Health. She has had a great time getting to know MDJunior and helping with the 2025 GYHS. Outside of school, enjoys playing competitive golf, reading, and podcasting.

  • Heidi Jeong

    Heidi Jeong is a senior at Johns Creek High School, where she launched the school’s chapter of MD Junior during her sophomore year to inspire peers to explore healthcare and engage in community service. Her academic interests lie at the intersection of psychology and medicine. Heidi is also an active member of her school’s Science Olympiad team, where she competes in STEM events and mentors newer members. Through these roles, she has combined leadership, service, and scientific inquiry to make a positive impact both inside and outside the classroom.
